Cerium oxide, also known as cerium or ceroxide or under the trade name Cerox, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CeO2. Cerium oxide has excellent properties as an abrasive for polishing glass and metals. It is used for polishing precision optical elements, sapphire and zircon, automotive, flat and especially decorative glass.
